About MeKeto

Free keto calculators & tools

Barron Hansen, creator of MeKeto

Hi, I’m Barron Hansen. I built MeKeto. I’m not a doctor, dietitian, or nutritionist, and I don’t pretend to be. I follow a keto diet myself, and I built these tools because the free calculators I could find were missing features I actually wanted. So I made better ones, and put them online free for anyone who needs them.

Every core tool on MeKeto is completely free, with no account required. I keep the lights on through clearly disclosed affiliate partnerships, never by locking access to calculators or educational content.

My Methodology

Every tool here runs on established, published formulas. Macros and energy use Mifflin-St Jeor and Katch-McArdle. The food database pulls its numbers from USDA FoodData Central. I show the math and name the sources, so you can check the numbers instead of trusting a black box.

  • Mifflin-St Jeor equation is the primary formula for estimating basal metabolic rate (BMR). It has been validated across multiple peer-reviewed studies as the most accurate for diverse general populations.
  • Katch-McArdle formula is used when body fat percentage is known, providing a more accurate BMR for athletes and individuals with measured body composition data.
  • Standard keto macro targets are based on clinical ketogenic diet literature: 70 to 75% fat, 20 to 25% protein, 5 to 10% carbohydrates (typically 20 to 50g net carbs per day depending on the individual).
  • Keto variants (Standard, Targeted, Cyclical, and High-Protein) apply ratios in accordance with published research on each variant’s intended use case and population.

Activity level multipliers and goal-based calorie adjustments (deficit for weight loss, surplus for muscle gain, maintenance) follow established exercise physiology guidelines. All formulas produce estimates. Individual metabolism varies, so results are a starting point to adjust over time with real-world feedback.

Medical Disclaimer

The information and tools provided on MeKeto are for general informational and educational purposes only. Nothing on this site constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new diet, including a ketogenic diet, particularly if you have an existing medical condition such as diabetes, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Calculated macro targets are estimates based on population-average formulas and may not be appropriate for every individual. Use results as a starting point and adjust based on your personal response and the guidance of your healthcare provider.

MeKeto is free, needs no account, and nothing here is medical advice. These are planning tools. Before making big changes to how you eat, especially if you have a health condition, talk to a qualified professional.
