Keto Restaurant Guide

Keto at Starbucks

Starbucks is easy on keto if you remember that the coffee is rarely the problem; the milk and syrups are. Brewed coffee, espresso, Americanos, and unsweetened tea are essentially zero carb. The carbs pile up when you add flavored syrups, whole or oat milk, and whipped sugary toppings.

For a richer drink, the keto move is heavy cream plus a sugar-free syrup in place of milk and classic syrup. That gives you a creamy, sweet latte feel while keeping net carbs in the low single digits.

Best keto options

Brewed coffee (hot or iced)~0g

Black coffee is zero carb. Add a splash of heavy cream for richness.

Espresso, Americano, or cold brew~1g

Straight espresso drinks are near zero. Cold brew unsweetened is a great low-carb option.

Unsweetened iced or hot tea~0g

Plain brewed tea has no carbs. Skip the lemonade, classic syrup, and the Refreshers.

Latte with heavy cream + sugar-free syrup~3g

Ask for heavy cream in place of milk (a "breve" style) and a sugar-free syrup. Far lower than a standard latte.

Heavy cream add-on~1g

A splash of heavy cream is about 0 to 1g and adds fat and flavor to any coffee.

Order with care

Frappuccino (grande)~55g

Blended sugar drinks are among the highest-carb items. There is no keto version; choose coffee instead.

Flavored latte with classic syrup~35g

Each pump of classic syrup is sugar. A standard flavored latte stacks several pumps plus milk.

Caramel macchiato (grande)~34g

Vanilla syrup, milk, and caramel drizzle. Order it with sugar-free syrup and heavy cream instead.

Strawberry Acai Refresher~36g

Fruit-juice based and sweetened. Choose unsweetened iced tea or black iced coffee.

Oat milk~14g

Oat milk is the highest-carb milk option. If you want a non-dairy choice, unsweetened almond milk is far lower.

How to order keto at Starbucks

  • Default to brewed coffee, an Americano, espresso, or cold brew, then add heavy cream yourself.
  • For a flavored drink, ask for sugar-free syrup (vanilla, cinnamon dolce, or mocha) instead of classic syrup.
  • Request heavy cream in place of milk for the lowest-carb creamy latte, or use unsweetened almond milk.
  • Avoid oat milk, 2% and whole milk in large sizes, and anything labeled a Frappuccino or Refresher.
  • Skip the whipped cream only if it is the sweetened canned type; plain heavy cream is fine on keto.
