Keto Drinks Database

Keto Energy and Sports Drinks: Net Carbs in 20 Drinks

Energy and sports drinks split cleanly in two. The regular versions are sugar drinks: an 8.4 fl oz Red Bull lists 29g of carbohydrate and a 20 fl oz Gatorade lists 36g. The zero-sugar versions mostly list 0 to 5g per can or bottle.

"Zero sugar" does not always mean zero carbs. Red Bull Zero lists 5g of total carbohydrate with 0g of sugar, and Liquid I.V. Sugar-Free lists 5g per stick with allulose as its first ingredient. Those grams are counted here as published, with nothing subtracted.

Every row comes from the maker’s own nutrition facts: Red Bull, Celsius, Alani Nu, Cellucor (C4), Rockstar, the Coca-Cola Company (Powerade), PepsiCo (Gatorade, Propel, Mountain Dew AMP), Liquid I.V. and LMNT. Serving sizes vary from an 8.4 fl oz can to a 20 fl oz bottle, so compare the serving column too.

Frequently asked questions

The Celsius Sparkling Orange can label lists 10 calories and 0g of total carbohydrate per 12 fl oz, sweetened with sucralose, so it adds no net carbs. It also carries 200 mg of caffeine per can. Flavors can differ slightly, so check the can for the one you buy.

Its carbohydrate is small. PepsiCo lists 2g of total carbohydrate and 0g of sugar for a 20 fl oz bottle of Gatorade Zero Glacier Freeze, about a tenth of a strict 20g day, and under 1g for the 12 fl oz bottle. Regular Gatorade Lemon Lime lists 36g for the same 20 fl oz bottle.

Red Bull lists 10 calories and 2g of carbohydrate for an 8.4 fl oz can of Red Bull Sugarfree, so it fits easily. Red Bull Zero lists 5g of carbohydrate with 0g of sugar. The original Red Bull lists 29g of carbohydrate per 8.4 fl oz, and the larger cans scale up from there.

Some do. Celsius Sparkling Orange, C4 Performance Energy and Gatorade Fast Twitch list 0g, but Red Bull Sugarfree and Rockstar Pure Zero list 2g, Alani Nu Cosmic Stardust 4g and Red Bull Zero 5g per can. "Sugar free" describes the sugar line only, so read total carbohydrate.

Powerade Zero and Propel list 0g, and LMNT lists 1g per stick with 1,000 mg of sodium. Liquid I.V. Sugar-Free lists 5g per stick, and regular Liquid I.V. lists 11g of sugar per stick. Regular Powerade (21g per 12 fl oz) and Gatorade (36g per 20 fl oz) are sugar drinks.

The regular Hydration Multiplier is not a great fit: the Lemon Lime stick lists 11g of carbohydrate, all of it sugar. The Sugar-Free version lists 5g of total carbohydrate and 0g of sugar per stick, with allulose as its first ingredient. FDA guidance lets allulose be left off the sugar lines, but it still counts in total carbohydrate, so this page counts all 5g.
